When integrating with your MailChimp account, Wherewolf sends the email addresses to a predetermined list. When sending emails out to this list, MailChimp automatically adds the unsubscribe link, which when pressed will unsubscribe that user for your list.
Creating new lists
MailChimp allows you to create new lists and import email addresses from other lists. The problem with doing this is that when you create a new list, it does not keep any information about unsubscribed email addresses. This means that you might import unsubscribed emails into your list and accidentally send a campaign to them. This is not a good experience for your users.
Ensuring you do not send emails to unsubscribed users
MailChimp has a detailed guide on how to remove unsubscribed emails from a list. However, this can be a time-consuming task and it is much easier to maintain one single list, a master list.
Recommended: Use a master list
We recommend you use the list which Wherewolf sends emails to as your master list. Sending email campaigns to subsets of this list can be managed using groups. A detailed guide on how this can be implemented is shown on the MailChimp website, Combine Lists to a Master List That Uses Groups
